Shape up your nails for Spring! From classic square nails to trendy stiletto nails, and everything in between, there are a variety of nail shapes to choose from. Your nail shape can say a lot about your personal style and choosing the right shape for your lifestyle can make all the difference. But how do you know which shape is right for you? In this blog post we will discuss three popular nail shapes- square, round and stiletto and provide tips on how to shape your nails to achieve each look. We will also recommend the best nail shape for different lifestyles, so you can find the perfect match for your daily routine.

SQUARE NAILS

Square nails are a great option for:

  • smaller nail beds or shorter fingers as they can help create the illusion of longer fingers
  • practical choice for those who work with their hands frequently, as they are less likely to snag or break
  • prefer a more timeless classic look

How to achieve square shaped nails:

1. Use a nail clipper to trim your nails straight across and to your desired length

2. Use a nail file to file the edges of your nails into a square shape. Begin by filing the edges at a 90-degree angle to the nail bed, then file the corners to make them straight and square. Remember to file in one direction and not back and forth.

3. If you prefer a less sharp look, you can also file the corners slightly rounded for a more rounded square look.

ROUND NAILS

Round nails are a good option for:

  • wider nail beds or longer fingers as they can help create the illusion of shorter fingers
  • weaker or brittle nails, as they are less prone to breaking or splitting than other shapes
  • prefer a more natural or low-maintenance look

How to achieve round shaped nails:

1. Use a nail clipper to trim your nails straight across and to your desired length

2. Use a nail file to shape the edges of your nails into a rounded shape. Hold the file at a 45-degree angle to the nail bed and gently file the corners, gradually rounding them until the edges are smooth and even.

3. Next, use the nail file to shape the tips of your nails into a rounded shape. Hold the file at a 90-degree angle to the nail bed and gently file the tip of each nail, rounding it off to create a smooth, even curve.

STILETTO NAILS

Stiletto nails are a wonderful option for:

  • those who want bold nails that make a statement!
  • shorter fingers and want a more elongated look
  • if you have an upcoming special event and want a glamourous, eye-catching nail look
  • Pro tip: this shape requires the nails to be of a certain length which makes the nail shape not ideal for all lifestyles. Due to the length, this nail shape can be more prone to chipping and we would not recommend this nail shape for those who frequently work with their hands

How to achieve stiletto-shaped nails:

1. Use a nail clipper to trim your nails straight across and to your desired length (ensure there is length)

2. Use a nail file to shape the edges of your nails into a point, starting at the corners and gradually shaping them into a triangular point. Make sure that the edges are smooth and even, and avoid filing them too thin or too sharp.

3. Next, use the nail file to shape the tips of your nails into a tapered point, starting at the center of the nail and gradually tapering the sides down to the point. Be careful not to file too much off the sides of the nail, as this can weaken the structure and make them more prone to breaking.

My Favorite Go To Shape is……Square & Almond lol I actually wear both shapes at the same time. I feel like its easier to shape almond nails on my dominant hand, but I also love a good square nail so I do that on my left hand and enjoy the best of both worlds!

I have always been a square nails devotee but recently tried the coffin shape and I love it! I still get a square tip, but I like the tapered shape.

Great tips! I love doing square nails for myself, since it looks uniformed and is less likely to break. But after reading your guide, you make round sounds easy, might try it next time. Thank you! 😊

I love going with the square look while I am growing them out since they are less likely to break. With the spring and summer coming, I like the more feminine look of round. I use my hands too much to go with the stiletto look. Great tutorial!

I’m a visual learner so this is SO helpful. I’ve always been a round nail girl but thinking about going square for a change!
